How to Use a Microphone Properly
Tips and techniques to avoid sounding distorted or muffled when you sing. Learning to use a microphone correctly will also help you sound better too.
If using a microphone stand make sure it is at a comfortable height for you to sing into before starting, playing with it while singing will be distracting to you and your guests.
Be sure you are not standing on a loose cable.
Check the on/off switch location and be sure not to handle the switch while singing, you don’t want to turn it off.
Hold the microphone by the handle only, don’t cover the pickup with your hand or fingers and keep the microphone at a distance of ½” to 1” away from your mouth or you may cause a muffled or distorted sound.
If you have a particularly quiet singing voice, ask your KJ or host to turn your microphone volume up for you.
